Day 21 of 25 Days of Christmas: Easy Frozen Hot Chocolate Mousse

We’re in the final 5 day countdown to Christmas, people! I’m sure nothing sounds better than some good old fashioned quality time and relaxation with our loved ones at this point, but there’s still some prepping and potlucks to attend. If you’re responsible for bringing a tasty treat to a holiday party or event this year then these easy recipes might come in handy. The last 5 days of 25 Days of Christmas are going to feature simple recipes that keep getting progressively easier as Christmas approaches. First up is this super easy, yet super scrumptious Frozen Hot Chocolate Mousse.

What you’ll need:

  • 2 cups dark chocolate chips

  • 1 1/2 cups half and half

  • 3 cups whipping cream

  • 6-8 packets of your favorite instant hot chocolate

  • 8 martini glasses or small cups for serving

  • 1 piping bag with star tip (optional)

What to do:

  1. Put chocolate in medium sized heat safe bowl and set aside.

  2. Heat half and half in saucepan until it starts to boil and as soon as it begins to boil turn off the heat, whisk in instant hot chocolate packets, and then pour the mixture over the chocolate chips while whisking gently.

  3. Whisk until smooth and set aside and allow to cool (do not cool it in the fridge unless you’re keeping an eye on it and working quick, you don’t want it to solidify).

  4. Put whipping cream in a large bowl and whip until stiff peaks form.

  5. Fold cooled off hot chocolate mix into the whipped cream and then cover and refrigerate for an hour before serving.

To serve: scoop mousse into the piping bag and pipe into serving cups or martini glasses. If you’re not using a piping bag simply use a big spoon to dollop servings into the cups or martini glasses.
